The danger of exposure to hazardous drugs
Numerous studies show that classic syringe and needle techniques almost universally result in contamination, including droplets, leakage from vial stoppers and aerosol generation. For pharmacists and nurses working with hazardous drugs, this contamination can be a significant health risk.
Exposure to hazardous drugs contamination can occur at all stages from compounding to reconstitution and may cause numerous acute and chronic effect on humans such as skin rashes, infertility, miscarriage, birth defect, leukemia or cancers(1).
Toxi-Guard® patented air-cleaning technology.
The Toxi-Guard® system contains a 100% activated carbon drug binding matrix (charcoal) and a 0.2 micron hydrophobic and oleophobic membrane. The membrane prevents airborne contaminants and particles from entering the drug or fluid path. The active carbon prevents the escape of cytotoxic and other hazardous drug vapors, aerosols and droplets into the environment during drug reconstitution.
